Troubleshooting

Helpful support tips for your remote transmitter

Problem: My remote is new and the vehicle will go into programming mode, but I cannot get the new remote to synch up properly or to work after synching up.

It is possible that the remote has a dead battery. If you have another remote that works with the vehicle, a simple way to test for a dead battery is to exchange the batteries in the two remotes and see if now the new one works and the old one does not.

It is also possible, though rare, for a circuit board to be defective. All new Remotes Authority transmitters have a warranty. Remotes Authority will replace any newly purchased remote that has a defect.

Problem: When I push the unlock or lock button on my remote it operates some but not all of the door locks

This may indicate a problem in your vehicle. Remote transmitters send a simple coded radio transmission to the receiver in your vehicle. What happens from that point is controlled by the keyless entry system control module and other components in the vehicle - such as wiring and actuators.

We know from experience that some vehicle makes have door lock actuator problems. Front doors are used more often than rear doors, so the problem generally shows up in one or both of the front doors. To solve this problem, you may need to replace the front door lock actuators.

Problem: One or more buttons on my remote work some of the time but not all of the time.

In general, if pressing a button on your remote has an intermittent effect with respect to your vehicle, you have one of two things going on:

  1. The most common situation is a low-charge battery. If this is the problem, replacing the battery should solve it.
  2. The other most likely situation is a problem with the remote transmitter. It could be a problem with the battery contact, or a buildup of dirt or grime on a button contact, or a failing circuit board. You may not be able to resolve the latter situation. But if the problem is with the battery contact or a button contact, you may be able to diagnose the problem by inspection and may be able to fix it by cleaning contact surfaces.

Problem: My vehicle will not go into programming mode.

In most cases, if the system in a vehicle is user programmable and you cannot get it to go into programming mode, there is a problem with one of the system components in your vehicle - such as the power door locks, a door closure indicator switch, or the keyless entry receiver itself. This is more common on older vehicles.
